Visiting Scientist Program

Travel and accommodation support for researchers undertaking collaboration at ANSTO's Lucas Heights campus

What is it?

The AINSE Visiting Scientist Program supports researchers from AINSE-member universities and research institutions (excluding ANSTO), who wish to undertake collaborative research at ANSTO’s Lucas Heights campus.

The Visiting Scientist Program provides:

  • Travel support: One economy-class return flight (booked by AINSE), or equivalent driving expenses, associated with the visit to Lucas Heights; and
  • Accommodation support: Cost of accommodation (booked by AINSE), capped at A$1,500 per week, for a minimum of 4 weeks and a maximum of 12 weeks, associated with the visit to Lucas Heights.

Am I eligible?

Eligible applicants must be in direct paid employment in a research role at a financial institutional member of AINSE, excluding ANSTO, during the current Award period of 1st July 2025 – 30th June 2026.

Current recipients of other AINSE awards, and prior recipients of the Visiting Scientist Program, are ineligible to apply.

As part of the application process, applicants will be required to supply signed letters from ANSTO and from the AINSE member institution at which they are employed confirming support for the proposed collaboration.

The current funding round supports visits of 4-12 weeks duration within the period of 1st July 2025 – 30th June 2026.

How do I apply?

To apply for the Visiting Scientist Program, you must first have established a connection with an appropriate ANSTO collaborator.

You must complete the application form using our online application portal prior to the application deadline.

Applications open: 4th March 2025.
Applications close: 15th April 2025.
